What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a form of oriental bodywork. Although its roots lie in China it was developed in modern-day Japan and brings together both Eastern and Western understanding of how body and mind function.
Shiatsu literally means 'finger pressure'. In practice, palms, elbows or even feet are used by the practitioner to apply pressure to points (tsubos) and pathways (meridians) in the body. These points or tsubos are the same as those used in traditional acupuncture. In addition gentle stretches and rotations are used to assist the body's energy flow.
Some people choose Shiatsu to treat specific ailments while others use it as a complementay therapy to enhance other treatments. Either way they value it as an enjoyable way of relaxing and reducing stress.
SEITAI-SHIATSU is a dynamic form of shiatsu and means 'correct body order' finger pressure. It focuses on spinal alignment and re-energizing the system.
Sessions last an hour. Shiatsu takes place on a futon and seitai-shiatsu on a bench. Please wear soft cotton clothing (not jeans). Clinics in Oxford, London and Winchester.
